Tanha...

As I was writing the previous post I remembered a song from the serial 'Tanha' which I used to sometimes watch about 6-7 years ago. I used to love the title track of the song. It was a beautiful song. I loved the words and the music too! So as I recalled that song, I couldn't get the words at first but I could hear the song inside my head..the music of the track. And as I started humming that tune, I started getting words after words, sentence after sentence. And once I was sure that the word were right I googled for the lyrics of the song and I found them! And if I'm not wrong these lines were written by Javed Akhtar.
dekhiye to lagta hai,
zindagi ki raahon mein,
ek bheed chalti hai.
sochiye to lagta hai,
bheed mein hain sab tanha.

jitne bhi yeh rishte hain,
kaanch ke khilone hain,
pal mein toot sakte hain..
ek pal mein ho jaaye,
koi jaane kab tanha.

dekhiye to lagta hai,
jaise yeh jo duniya hai,
kitni rangeen mehfil hai,
sochiye to lagta hai,
kitna gam hai duniya mein,
kitna zakhmi har dil hai..

woh jo muskuraate the,
jo kisi ko khwaabon mein,
apne pass paate the..
unki neend tooti hai..
aur hain woh ab tanha.

dekhiye toh lagta hai
zindagi ki raahon mein
ek bheed chalti hai
sochiye toh lagta hai
bheed mein hain sab tanha

  3. these are hard hitting lines -

    woh jo muskuraate the,
    jo kisi ko khwaabon mein,
    apne pass paate the..
    unki neend tooti hai..
    aur hain woh ab tanha.

i wish i had the super-eraser to take care of life's emotional roller-coasters... but alas, life ain't that simple as i wish it to be...

  4. i think poetry, and especially hindi and urdu poetry, is able to romanticise pain and angst like nothing else. it makes it so beautiful. in fact it makes people wonder whether the pain and suffering is preferable over the joy and happiness. its almost as if you cannot live life fully without experiencing these emotions.

which is why such poetry, if you can understand the subtle nuances, brings about a collective sigh among all listeners :-)

  5. Lovely song, and in fact serial was also a good one but they abruptly ended it.

Reminds me of a sonf from 'Namastey London'...

"Kehney ko sang tere ek duniya chalti hai...chupke tere dil mein tanhaaiyee palti hai...bas yaad saath hai"

    No wonder lyricist is same.

  17. Tanha was an Indian television drama which aired on Star Plus from 1997-1999.It was a joint presentation of India and Pakistan and it included top Pakistani actors such as Sajid Hasan and Marina Khan. The lyrics for the title song were composed by Javed Akhtar and set to tune by Raju Singh. It was written by Haseena Moin, the writer of popular Pakistani television series like Dhoop Kinare, Tanhaiyaan and Ankahi.Tanha set a was a very popular drama and it received huge ratings. It was an Indo-Pak Drama and was enjoyed by the people of South Asia.

I was fortunate to work in this serial as a childhood role of Milind Soman (Aamir). Haseena Moin used to come to my house and write the story and adapted the name of the characters of my family members to the actual serial.I remember working for this serial and my role was too small as Aamir goes into flash back and it was a 10min role. I had a VCR Cassette but i misplaced it. Once i find it I will upload it over YouTube.
