My cake baking rendezvous!

What are your first thoughts looking at this picture? Are you thinking on the lines - looks yummy, so well baked, wanna dig your teeth into it?

But wait..hold your horses. The phrase "Looks can be deceptive" fits so aptly here. This cake was a total fiasco.

So what went wrong? For one, it had very little sugar so it kind of tasted very bland. Second it just didn't rise. Reason? Even I don't know :|

But you know what? My Betu still eats it with enthu that it just melts my heart. He goes "Wow! Cake" and gorge on. His expressions are priceless. As if he is really really enjoying the cake and as if the cake is really really delicious. That makes me feel so guilty because he so wanted to eat a cake and I told him I will make one instead of buying. And eventually it turned out to be such a flop show :(

Betu, next time I promise I will bake you a better one.

P.S. Its a Chocolate Yogurt Cake.

  1. Its not just the baking, but the mothers warmth, love and sons trust which makes him enjoy. It reminds me of my childhood. You being a woman & a mother may not imagine how a son feels.

  2. aww that's such a sweet comment, I feel.
You see, how he loves you. Don't feel bad about it. It is his decision that the cake has to taste good. :)
Apart from tht what is bland for you may not be so bland for him. I always wonder how Rishab can eat plain roti or bread with just some butter on it, but he likes it that way, not me.

  7. Your betu is now grown up. He is just encouraging you in your endeavour. He knows and understands the effort you must have put into it.
The point is does he also understand when you encourage him that way? :D

  10. I'm awful at cakes! And can always understand why a cake won't rise up, won't taste as good as it should even though it looks perfect.

  14. Betu loved the fact that Mum made him a cake and I"m sure he thought it was delish. Reminds me of the time many, many years ago when I wanted to make a chocolate cake and I used Atta flour instead of plain flour. It was mighty good Chocolate Chapati!!

  16. The cake looks great! PG is right, it might not taste bland to the baby. I remember I used to bake horribly sticky cakes for rakhi and all by brothers ie my own and some boys in the building for whom I tied rakhi used to relish it. In fact the the building brothers were more interested in it! No one baked cakes for them you see!
You know, you can try baking with a cover on top- I do not know about microwaves but our OTG cakes did not rise so we baked them covered and they rose beautifully.
