Sacrifice & Adjustment

I've often seen and felt that how these two words are used interchangeably based on the position of the person with respect to the other person in a situation where two or more people are involved.

If one person is senior/older then its called 'sacrifice' while with the younger generation its termed as 'adjustment'. While 'sacrifice' has value attributed to it, 'adjustment' is expected as a duty.

Why is anything foregone by the younger generation not treated as sacrifice and valued or appreciated? What is your opinion on this? I would like to hear views on this from as many people as possible.

P.S. To clarify, this may not apply to each and every person but this is a general view that I've experienced.

  2. i doubt it, not many value sacrifices and almost everything is termed as adjustments. and yet no one's sacrifices/adjustments are ever really appreciated.

    1. I agree with your last line. Its very difficult to appreciate someones sacrifices or adjustment in true sense.

  3. I am thinking...not sure if its is elder/younger based.
I have come across situations where the same thing from a young person was declared as sacrifice by one and then adjustment by another one. I think it depends a lot on how the people are related to each other. The "sacrifice" reaction is a result of extra softspot that person might have and vice-versa for "adjustment".

    1. The reason I felt its the older vs younger as I've heard so many times the elders saying how much they sacrificed for so and so. And if the younger person shows unwillingness to abide by what is expected, they are told "You should learn to adjust".

I agree that the relation with each does matter but only to little extent.

  5. Pertinent post... Wish people would learn to give without expecting... the world would be a happier place if people curbed high expectations....
